We have been on Fedhealth for over 10 years and finally decided that enough is enough. We were on Maxima Standard and has now decided to go to Medihelp where we get much better cover (and they pay bills !!!!) at a cheaper rate monthly. Shame on you Fedhealth Maxima Standard ;. best cover my a#$

The increase in premium for 2010 is too high especially as they have dropped from 300% to 200% and the savings haven't increased. Brillilant medical aid but guys, your starting to price yourself out of the market!!

Dont forget to get gapcover if you are under 69 yrs old as you will definitely need it for planned operations.As a young pensioner I had to pay R7500 for the surgeons fee (I managed to talk him down to 50% of that ) and the anesthetist was R1500 extra as well.

My mother, Ramona van der Merwe, was supposed to go for a hip replacement on 13 October 2011. A week before the operation, Medshield refused to give authorization for the procedure because of her weight. The ruling from the Registrar of medical schemes says they have to pay for the operation, however they are ignoring it.

We had to change from Carecross to Medshield, and now that the first batch of chronic medicine is to be dispatched, they let me know that insulin has a 40% payment before they can release the medicine. Insulin is not seen as a necessity for diabetes?

Dreadful service. I was given authorisation for a specialist visit then only reimbursed 1/3rd of the fee. Charges for blood tests done by a network doctor were not reimbursed and authorisation for a network doctor visit refused. Avoid them like the plague.

It is not a good product and they have been a huge stress factor in my life. They do not have to contact me - I am still in the process of trying to resolve why I have to pay for chronic meds myself.

The product is too expensive. The dental coverage and payout is good. The plan does not cover you as promised. You do not have access to specialists as everything comes out of a tiny savings account that gets exhausted after seeing a healthcare provider, never mind a specialist. Product should cover more if they want to considerable increase premiums annually. Paid out fully for operation which means overall I am happy with product.

Momentum custom option - Fairly pricey, offers nothing extra, not even a savings plan, and covers just about nothing. At R1079 per month, you better off with that back in your pocket and getting free treatment at a government hospital, even if you do wait 7 hours in a queue.

This option provides me with good cover, an easy to understand plan and the freedom to go to any private hospital and doctor. The premiums are low compared to what I have paid at my previous medical aid, plus I do not have any co-payments before a hospital admission. Service is personal, fast and the Genesis staff are well informed and friendly. A BIG thumbs up to Genesis!

Beware of the Rules... PMB's are ONLY covered at the rate of a Government Hospital!!!! (Prescribed Minium Benefits), these are a set of things that the govt forces each scheme to cover, like Cancer etc. So if your benefits run out, pack your bags for the local govt hospital. Members you need to voice your complaints or the scheme thinks you are happy!

The administration and claim procedure is appalling. After many many phone calls to Genisis and receiving 2 letters of demand from a surgoen I finally settled the account myself. Medical Aid say I should have been paid, but it keeps failing in their admin dept. I am still trying to get my money back after 4 months.

We have Liberty Hospital Plan Insurance and on the few occassions when we have had to claim, the money has been paid into our account promptly, the level of service received from our Broker has always been excellent and I would have no qualms about referring Liberty to friends.

When I was recently hospitalised for 5 days, Liberty's paid out very poorly. This was the first time in the 4 years since I've been on the scheme that I had been hospitalised and I was apparently covered for up to 300%. They only paid for 2 days in hospital and did not pay for my x-rays or scans.

When I had my baby it was and emergency ceasarian section. Although the hospital fees where paid for and physio therapist the Gynecologist was not paid in full and they refused to pay the paediatrician who was present at birth. I am only covered for 120% of the fee which the insist is only 100% now, but in the case of an EMERGENCY ceasarian they have to pay whatever rate the doctor charges. It is law and not many people know this. My gynecologist had to threaten them with a lawyers letter before they transfered the money the next day. This was after numerous calls by me and the gynecologist's administrator. The call centres are useless in general but especially when it comes to any disputes. They ignore you completely and keep repeating their textbooks.

After becoming a member of the Medical Aid I found out about all the reasons why claims cannot be paid. Not even my glasses was paid for. I spend more money on the medical aid monthly payment than on my doctors bills. I cancelled all my Liberty Products and moved it to another service provider. I will not recommend this medical aid to any of my friends. The call centre agents are very arrogant and did not even try to assist me in any of my enquiries.

I think they need to look at disabled members as they do not have the best cover as the best prices for people in wheelchairs. The cover for mobile wheelchairs are very low in comparision to the cost of these wheelchairs. Especiallyt when these wheelchairs cost so much and have to be designed for thier needs such as their backs and seating positions. Maybe loook at an option where they will pay out the full amount once every 3 to 4 years etc.

Spectramed is without a doubt, the absolute Best medical Scheme that South Africa has to offer. Their service is far outstanding, and the benefit cannot be matched by any other Scheme. We have had nothing but problems with the level of service we have received from SpectraMed. They are constantly rejecting claims or not paying on time. I would definatly not recommend this medical aid to anyone.

Despite numerous phones calls and consultations, and repeated faxed scripts, Spectramed and Optipharm could not sort out the correct medication to be delivered. After a year of frustration and irritation, we have had enough and am changing medical aids.

Try a pensioners option with no maternity benefits. This benefit can be included in another benefit where the limit is very low or does not exist. No one over 60 wants this benefit, especially if you have had a hysterectomy.
