When I was recently hospitalised for 5 days, Liberty's paid out very poorly. This was the first time in the 4 years since I've been on the scheme that I had been hospitalised and I was apparently covered for up to 300%. They only paid for 2 days in hospital and did not pay for my x-rays or scans.

When I had my baby it was and emergency ceasarian section. Although the hospital fees where paid for and physio therapist the Gynecologist was not paid in full and they refused to pay the paediatrician who was present at birth. I am only covered for 120% of the fee which the insist is only 100% now, but in the case of an EMERGENCY ceasarian they have to pay whatever rate the doctor charges. It is law and not many people know this. My gynecologist had to threaten them with a lawyers letter before they transfered the money the next day. This was after numerous calls by me and the gynecologist's administrator. The call centres are useless in general but especially when it comes to any disputes. They ignore you completely and keep repeating their textbooks.

After becoming a member of the Medical Aid I found out about all the reasons why claims cannot be paid. Not even my glasses was paid for. I spend more money on the medical aid monthly payment than on my doctors bills. I cancelled all my Liberty Products and moved it to another service provider. I will not recommend this medical aid to any of my friends. The call centre agents are very arrogant and did not even try to assist me in any of my enquiries.

We have Liberty Hospital Plan Insurance and on the few occassions when we have had to claim, the money has been paid into our account promptly, the level of service received from our Broker has always been excellent and I would have no qualms about referring Liberty to friends.

I recently had macular degeneration and had to go to a surgeon for a procedure dressing up in all green operating gear but as i only had a hospital plan this was not deemed a operation (I had to go three times) and got anethetized I have had no claims for past 9 years This condition was not listed as a exclusion .I pay R3400.00 per month for this plan( all three procedures cost R1765.00!!!!!!!!) what a joke

Excellent medical aid for the individual whose employer does not offer medical aid as a benefit. The service and paying of claims is excellent.
